Griffith University aimed to enhance its research capabilities by installing an additional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer in its specialised laboratory facilities. This required the creation of a secure space within two existing labs, both containing highly sensitive equipment and ongoing experiments. The project presented unique challenges, including managing the risks of magnetic interference, asphyxiation, and fire safety, while ensuring that the operational NMR machines remained functional throughout the construction process. Careful planning and execution were essential to achieving a safe and successful outcome without disrupting the university’s ongoing research activities.
We were engaged to deliver this complex and high-risk project. Our work involved refurbishing the existing laboratories to create a secure and functional environment for the additional NMR spectrometer. Using non-magnetic tools and materials, our team carefully managed the construction process to avoid any interference with the operational equipment. We also installed advanced safety systems, including upgraded ventilation, gas monitoring, and fire suppression systems, to ensure compliance with stringent safety standards.
