Ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Retail First envisioned optimising seating capacity at the Australia Fair food court to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors. The project involved comprehensive strip-outs, refurbishments, and aesthetic enhancements to expand seating from 300 to a minimum of 554 seats. Maintaining existing seating capacity and safety measures throughout the upgrade was crucial to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and continuity for food operators.
We were approached by Retail First to meet a hard deadline under a Design & Construct (D&C) contract. Our team provided strategic construction sequencing, design management, and buildability expertise, allowing food vendors to remain operational throughout the construction phase. Collaborating closely with Retail First and specialist consultants, we developed a plan that ensured business continuity while meeting the tight timeline. Despite the challenges of maintaining operations in a live environment, we successfully delivered the project on schedule for the Commonwealth Games.
Our team successfully delivered Retail First’s brief, transforming the Australia Fair food court into a modern, inviting dining facility on time and within budget. The refurbishment features benches by large windows offering waterfront views and natural light, creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Inspired by the coastal surroundings, the design incorporates timber finishes and thoughtfully selected furniture. This transformation not only provides a fresh, contemporary space for Retail First but also boosts foot traffic and revenue for food operators – a remarkable outcome that underscores the strength of our partnership.
