Merrimac State School sought to enhance its E Block facilities in preparation for the new school year, aiming to improve students’ learning experiences. The project involved a full strip-out and refurbishment of four general learning areas and a flexispace learning area, completed over the Christmas holidays to minimise disruption. Key priorities included enhancing functionality, acoustic separation, and adaptability within the spaces.
Partnering with Honeywill Consulting, we were engaged under a design and construct contract to deliver this transformation. Led by Project Manager Warrin Orman and Site Manager Troy Roots, our team managed the strip-out process, including safe asbestos removal, and upgraded the ground drainage to meet the school’s needs. We incorporated structural steel to support operable walls, ensuring functionality and improved acoustic separation. New joinery for teacher’s walls and a kitchen unit for the flexispace added usability and convenience. To ensure all details were aligned, we conducted a collaborative workshop with school representatives after shop drawings were completed, capturing the school’s requirements.
The upgraded E Block now offers vibrant, adaptable learning spaces tailored to Merrimac State School’s needs. The flexispace is versatile and dynamic, with operable walls for easy reconfigurations. Vibrant accents energise the rooms, while the kitchen unit enhances usability. Delivered on time and within the school holidays, the project reflects a seamless blend of functionality and flexibility, providing an inspiring environment for student growth and learning.
