Griffith University aimed to enhance its research capabilities by installing an additional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer in its specialised laboratory facilities. This required the creation of a secure space within two existing labs, both containing highly sensitive equipment and ongoing experiments. The project presented unique challenges, including managing the risks of magnetic interference, asphyxiation, and fire safety, while ensuring that the operational NMR machines remained functional throughout the construction process. Careful planning and execution were essential to achieving a safe and successful outcome without disrupting the university’s ongoing research activities.
We were engaged to deliver this complex and high-risk project. Our work involved refurbishing the existing laboratories to create a secure and functional environment for the additional NMR spectrometer. Using non-magnetic tools and materials, our team carefully managed the construction process to avoid any interference with the operational equipment. We also installed advanced safety systems, including upgraded ventilation, gas monitoring, and fire suppression systems, to ensure compliance with stringent safety standards.
Throughout the project, we maintained safe working zones and followed critical commissioning sequences to preserve the integrity of the live laboratory environment. By enforcing strict safety protocols, such as restricting metallic items and implementing specialised worker training, we successfully navigated the challenges of this technically demanding project.
Our team delivered a secure, functional, and cutting-edge facility to house Griffith University’s additional NMR spectrometer, meeting all safety and operational requirements. The project was completed on time and within budget, enabling the university to expand its research capabilities while safeguarding its ongoing experiments.
This state-of-the-art facility now supports Griffith University’s commitment to scientific innovation and research excellence, demonstrating our ability to deliver highly specialised projects with precision and care.
