We were engaged under a D&C contract to modernize and improve the aesthetics and functionality of this space. Our primary objective was to enhance the acoustics and lighting of an outdated and noisy roof structure, transforming it into a more inviting and efficient environment. The project required innovative solutions to minimize disruption to the operational shopping centre, while ensuring everything was completed on time and within budget.
The original tender proposed scaffolding the entire shopping centre, which would have caused significant disruption and increased costs. However, we devised an alternative solution that split the work into two phases, reducing both the impact on the centre and overall costs. For the second phase, when the custom-made 4-meter diameter light fittings arrived late in the project, we avoided scaffolding altogether. Instead, we developed a remote-operated electric pulley system to install the lights, not only solving the immediate challenge but also providing a long-term maintenance solution that had not been previously considered.
We successfully installed acoustic baffles and custom lighting boxes, significantly improving the acoustics and aesthetics of the space. In addition to the ceiling work, we upgraded lighting, walls, columns, handrails, and joinery, and refreshed furniture throughout the area. Floor tiling was updated to meet new compliance standards, seamlessly integrated with the existing finishes.
By using innovative scaffolding alternatives, we minimised disruption, kept the centre fully operational, and completed the project on time and within budget. Our remote-operated pulley system ensured the smooth installation of the large light fittings and provided an easy maintenance solution for the future. The end result was a stress-free project that delivered a modern, functional, and visually appealing space for both our client and their tenants.
