UQ wanted to increase the seating capacity in the existing UQ Centre Lecture Theatre 220. To achieve this, they needed to completely remove the internal fixtures and install new seating with additional necessary fittings. They also aimed to improve acoustic performance, internal aesthetics and external access ways. The project needed to be completed efficiently to allow as little disruption as possible to standard university operations.
We began by stripping out the existing lecture theatre and implementing a new fixed seating arrangement to maximize capacity. To fast-track the timeline, we conducted a 3D point cloud scan before demolition, allowing structural steel to be fabricated concurrently. This innovation compressed the program, keeping the project on schedule. Interior updates included enhanced acoustics and modernised finishes, while the shaded entrance provides a refreshed and welcoming exterior.
Completed on time and within budget, Lecture Theatre 220 now offers UQ a contemporary, accessible, and highly functional space. The enhanced capacity, improved comfort, and updated entry ensure a welcoming and efficient learning environment – a successful project delivered seamlessly for UQ.
