The Brief

Ipswich City Council (ICC) set out to revitalise the Redbank Plaza Library by expanding into the neighbouring tenancy to create a brighter, more modern and more functional community space. Working within a live shopping centre required thoughtful planning, clear coordination and a delivery partner who could manage evolving design details while keeping the user experience front and centre.

Our contribution

We delivered the full 650m² refurbishment and expansion, including demolition, new ceilings, flooring, joinery, finishes, upgraded services and a modern shopfront with automated sliding doors.

Throughout the project, we worked closely with ICC, DM2 Architecture and engineering consultants to refine remaining service details, ensuring everything was clearly defined, costed and aligned with program requirements.

To minimise disruption, we staged works carefully, provided ICC a six‑week notice period and maintained open communication with all stakeholders. With a tight delivery window, our onsite team led a calm, well‑coordinated process that kept safety, sequencing and efficiency at the forefront.

The remarkable project outcome

Delivered on time and on budget, the transformed Redbank Plaza Library now offers a larger, brighter and more welcoming environment for the Ipswich community.

The upgraded finishes, refreshed services, new joinery and open shopfront have elevated both functionality and user experience. Despite the challenges of working in a live retail environment, the project progressed smoothly thanks to strong collaboration and disciplined planning.

The result is a contemporary, community‑focused library that’s ready for the future – and a successful reflection of our partnership with ICC.
