The Brief

The University of Queensland (UQ) sought to upgrade their engineering lab within an occupied building to support their leading engineering program. The project aimed to refurbish three rooms with new air conditioning and a dedicated plant room, all within a live building environment.

Managing the complexities of working in an occupied space was essential, with the university requiring a contractor who could deliver on time, on budget and without disrupting ongoing operations. UQ emphasised the importance of a seamless, stress-free project experience, maintaining focus on the functionality and longevity of the refurbished space.

Our contribution

We were engaged under a lump sum contract to provide buildability expertise. Our team worked closely with UQ to refurbish the three rooms, incorporating new air conditioning and a state-of-the-art plant room. We ensured minimal disruption to the building’s operations, which remained fully functional throughout the process.

By leveraging our experience, we ensured that the project was completed on time, within budget and met the university’s high standards. Clear communication and effective project management were essential in delivering the engineering lab’s modernised facilities.

The remarkable project outcome

The refurbished Engineering Lab at UQ now provides world-class facilities to support students’ practical learning. With new air conditioning and a modern plant room, the space is tailored made for UQ’s engineering program. Delivered within budget and on schedule, the upgrade is a testament to the effective collaboration and expertise that ensures UQ’s continued excellence in engineering education.
