Delivering works within a heritage-listed building required a thoughtful and collaborative approach. Our team worked closely with QUT, consultants and specialist heritage contractors to ensure all upgrades respected the building’s existing architectural fabric while supporting its long-term use and maintenance.
The refurbishment included upgrades to key workshop areas, including the Laser Lab and workshops D01 and D07, alongside the integration of new services and specialist installations. Through early planning and proactive stakeholder engagement, we successfully navigated the complexities of working within a heritage environment, balancing modern workshop requirements with heritage preservation outcomes.
A strong focus was placed on achieving the best architectural result. By carefully coordinating heritage-sensitive works and addressing existing building conditions, our team ensured the upgraded spaces complemented the character of J Block while providing a high-quality and functional environment for students and staff.
