The Brief

Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS) engaged FARA to deliver the relocation and fitout of the Waijungbah Jarjums service to a new facility at 25 Cotton Street, Nerang. The project was initiated to respond to increasing demand and enable the expansion of services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Waijungbah Jarjums (“place of mother and child”) provides a unique, continuous model of care, supporting families from pregnancy through to early childhood. The vision was to create a welcoming, functional and culturally safe environment that reflects the trust and care at the heart of the service.

The facility scope included a reception area, seven consultation rooms, three interview rooms and office spaces, all designed to support both clinical delivery and community connection.

This project represents the fifth successful collaboration between FARA and GCHHS, continuing a strong partnership built on trust, collaboration and shared community outcomes.

Our contribution

Our team worked closely with GCHHS and key stakeholders to deliver a practical and efficient fitout aligned with the operational needs of the service.

Minor internal wall modifications were carefully managed to optimise workflow, enhance privacy, and support an intuitive patient journey.

Throughout the project, our team maintained control of program and budget, coordinating trades and managing delivery to ensure a smooth and streamlined process. Our collaborative approach enabled challenges to be addressed proactively, ensuring the space was delivered to meet both clinical requirements and user expectations.

The remarkable project outcome

The completed Waijungbah Jarjums facility provides a modern, purpose-built healthcare environment that supports culturally safe, continuous care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

The new space enhances capacity, improves accessibility and creates a welcoming setting where families feel supported, connected and cared for. With dedicated spaces for midwives, child health nurses and health workers, the facility enables a holistic model of care from pregnancy through to early childhood.

Delivered on time and within budget, the project is a meaningful outcome for the community and a testament to the strength of FARA’s ongoing partnership with GCHHS.
